Jack Shelbourn

Jack Shelbourn is a cinematographer, academic, and sustainability consultant working at the intersection of filmmaking practice and environmental responsibility.

His work as a Director of Photography spans drama features, short films, documentaries, commercials, and music promos, with projects screened internationally at film festivals, on broadcast television, and across digital platforms. He was selected for the British Society of Cinematographers' Emerging Cinematographers Night in 2016, and was part of BFI Network x BAFTA Crew in 2021.

Since 2022, Jack has been a PhD by Practice candidate at the University of Lincoln, researching sustainable practices in the art and craft of cinematography. His doctoral work examines the carbon impact of production workflows, with a particular focus on lighting methodology and the emerging role of AI-assisted production in reducing environmental footprint.

He is Senior Lecturer and Programme Leader of BA (Hons) Film Production at Lincoln, and serves as External Examiner at the University of Salford. He has published through Routledge and The Conversation, written for British Cinematographer, and delivered a TEDx talk on sustainability in film. He holds active professional relationships with BAFTA albert and the BFI.

As a Carbon Literacy certified consultant, he works with screen industry organisations on certification, environmental reporting, and sustainability strategy.
