Jack Shelbourn Advisory

Sustainability Consultancy & Advisory Work

I work with organisations in the screen and creative industries, and beyond, at the intersection of environmental responsibility, organisational strategy, and emerging technology.

My background is unusual for this space. I'm a filmmaker and cinematographer who has spent years researching carbon impact and workflow design in screen production. I deliver sustainability content through the BFI, work with BAFTA albert, and hold Carbon Literacy certification through the Carbon Literacy Project. I understand production realities: budget pressure, tight schedules, the gap between good intentions and actual practice. And I understand what the standards genuinely require.

That combination of creative industry fluency and sustainability expertise is what I bring to consultancy work.

What I offer

  • albert Certification Support

    • Guiding productions through the albert Carbon Calculator, Carbon Action Plan development, and certification. I understand the system from the inside and can make the process straightforward rather than burdensome.

  • Carbon Reduction Plans

    • Producing compliant Carbon Reduction Plans for organisations bidding on public sector contracts, a requirement under PPN 006 (formerly PPN 06/21) for contracts over £5 million.

  • Sustainability Strategy & Sense-Checking

    • Working with leadership teams to develop clear, credible sustainability positions: baseline carbon footprinting, net zero roadmap development, and structured review of existing commitments and claims.

  • Training & Workshops

    • Carbon Literacy sessions, crew sustainability inductions, and board-level briefings tailored to creative industry contexts. Designed for organisations who want their people to genuinely understand the issues, not just tick a box.

Credentials

Who I typically work with

Independent production companies · Arts Council-funded organisations · Commercial and advertising production · Regional creative businesses · Cultural institutions · Organisations navigating ESG pressure for the first time

How engagements work

Most work is short and time-bounded, typically one to five days, or a light ongoing retainer. I work at both the strategic and practical level depending on what's needed. Enquiries are best started informally by email.

All consultancy is undertaken independently in a personal capacity and not on behalf of the University of Lincoln.
